Pointfuse Space Creator Extended with Toolkit for Laser Scanning in Space Utilization Workflows

Pointfuse has launched a new toolkit specifically designed to make it easier to adopt laser scanning within space management, planning and utilization workflows. Pointfuse Space Creator automates the conversion of features such as walls, doors and windows to BIM LOD 200, and is compatible with the latest mobile mapping systems that are increasingly being used for as-built and as-used surveys within the facilities management sector.

Pointfuse will be showcasing the new functionality on stand 657 at New York Build 2020; the largest construction and design show for the NYC and the Tri-state area. New York Build takes place from the 3-4 March 2020 at the Javits Centre. (For further information see here)

Converting millions of individual measurements

Pointfuse software converts the millions of individual measurements captured by laser scanning and photogrammetry into useable 3D models. The unique ability to classify objects within Pointfuse, both automatically and manually, has already had a huge impact on how as-built data is used within design and construction. With the launch of Space Creator, Pointfuse can now realize real-time records for space utilization and optimization projects by deskilling and streamlining workflows, thus reducing project costs.

Pointfuse ‘Space Creator’ leverages the core functionality of Pointfuse - the segmented mesh model; automatically converting classified mesh models into ‘family’ groups, such as walls, floors, doors, windows, etc. for use with popular downstream BIM and FM software. Pointfuse Space Creator data can then be exported as IFC (Industry Foundation Class) parametrized objects while also automatically calculating quantities, areas and dimensions in an easy to read PDF building information report.

“Mobile mapping systems that are optimized for indoor use are increasingly being used to rapidly capture up to date data for space management, planning and utilization,” commented Mark Senior, regional sales director at Pointfuse. “However the resulting point clouds can still present problems due to complexity and size. With Space Creator we are removing these barriers making data easy to use and easy to share.”
