Fugro Appointed for Riverside Development in Rochester, UK

The Medway City Council (United Kindom) has appointed Fugro Engineering Services Ltd, FES (United Kingdom), to assist with geotechnical and geoenvironmental aspects by investigating the riverside site’s ground and groundwater conditions.

Industrial land to the south of the River Medway at Rochester, United Kingdom includes former shipyards, warehouses, and an aggregates works. Medway City Council have earmarked the site for regeneration with housing, open spaces and community buildings.
The redevelopment will involve flood prevention measures and some land-raising.

On land, FES carried out 42 CPT tests and constructed 79 trial pits plus 32 cable percussion boreholes to depths of 33 metres. A further six cable percussion boreholes were performed in the river. These were completed from the Mytilus jack-up platform, operated by Alluvial Mining. Aquifer protection measures were required at some of the locations.
