Mobile Scanner Solution: Leica GRP5000

Leica Geosystems (Switzerland) has announced the Leica GRP5000 system, a mobile scanner solution. The extremely high measuring density of up to 500,000 measured points per second allows, for example, the automatic analysis of the track envelope. The high density of measured points enables the smallest incursions into the clearance profile to be automatically and reliably detected.

The Leica GRP5000 is specially handy for detailed inventory surveying. The device is suitable for documentation of sections of line for planning purposes and variant studies – complete inventory data is a prerequisite for cost-optimised planning.

Thanks to the Leica HDS4500 Scanner, precise digital documentation of the immediate track environment is made available, so that a detailed assessment and documentation of infrastructure elements can be prepared. The result of collaboration between Amberg Messtechnik and Leica Geosystems, the Leica GRP5000 embodies the synergy of railway and surveying know-how along with the latest scanning technology.

The device is placed on the track and pushed over the section of track to be scanned. The Leica HDS4500 scanner measures the track environment in 2D mode, the supplied software processes the raw data, evaluates it and creates, in combination with a 3D track survey, a homogeneous 3-D data model. A range of software modules allow the further use of the high-resolution geometric image data for a wide range of other applications.

The Leica GRP5000 is a solution for complete kinematic track documentation. It fits into the Leica GRP System FX, the modular components of which are matched to the needs and project requirements of rail operators.

The range starts with the Leica GRP1000, allowing high precision and efficient surveying of track geometry, while the extended functionality of the Leica GRP3000 gives the ability to add profile measurements to the track geometry surveys. With the new Leica GRP5000 added to the range, the GRP System FX can provide a flexible measuring system configured to meet specific application requirements.
