US$4.5 M Yemen Digital Mapping Contract

MAPS geosystems (United Arab Emirates) has been awarded a US$4.5 million contract by the Presidential Office of the Republic of Yemen.


The contract is to provide digital mapping of over 450,000 km², covering the entire territory of Yemen, including Socotra and the offshore islands. It involves aerial photography and digital processing of over 16,000 stereo models, including the production of a high grade Digital Terrain Model, and is to be to be completed in 13 months.


This will be the most comprehensive and detailed survey ever conducted of the Yemen and will form the basis of a country-wide Geographic Information System to be used by governmental and public organisations in support of the infrastructure development of the country.
