Leica Geosystems GIS & Mapping (GA, USA) has appointed Jim Farley vice-president business development. Mr Farley has spent more than twenty years in the information technology industry in both mainstream IT and GIS, working in the public and private sectors and in academia. For the past four years, he has been senior product manager at Oracle, where he led spatial product initiatives. Before joining Oracle, Jim Farley served both as professor in the Fulbright College of Arts and Sciences at the University of Arkansas and as technical director at the university’s Center for Advanced Spatial Technologies. He received a Smithsonian Laureate for his work in distributed spatial data warehousing for government in 1999, and he was a founder of OGC, the Open Geospatial Consortium.
